DMZ

The series that defined comics’ response to 9/11.

During the Second American Civil War, rookie photojournalist Matty Roth gets himself embedded in the conflict's most unlikely war zone: the streets of New York City, now known as the DMZ. Instead of embracing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to document the city under siege with a classic journalist’s objectivity, Roth blurs the lines to the point of no return, threatening to fall in with politicians and opportunists, warlords and mercenaries.

DMZ was serialized over six years and seventy-two monthly issues, making it one of DC Comics/Vertigo's longest running series and one of its most culturally resonant. It's appeared on the New York Times Bestsellers list multiple times, and is published in more than a dozen languages worldwide.

NORTHLANDERS

A Norse epic that spans genres and defines expectations.

The British Isles were a tempting target to the Vikings, who craved lush land to farm and rich monasteries to plunder, and the fractured Saxon kingdoms were barely able to resist. But as time progressed and the centuries-old pagan belief in nature, the fates, and a raucous warrior afterlife were gradually replaced by the rigid traditions of Christianity, a dark ages culture war took shape.

Over the course of its fifty monthly issues, Brian Wood redefined the Viking genre in comics, introducing a realism and historical devotion that up to that point was almost completely absent.

REBELS

An uncommon account of the American Revolution.

Not merely rehashing the tales of the most famous men of the time, Rebels details the epic story of the colonists, explorers and traders, wives and daughters, farmers and volunteer soldiers who, in a few short, turbulent years, created the brand-new nation of America.

BLACK ROAD

A Viking crime thriller

Set in the dark days of the Viking Age as Christianity begins its inexorable sweep across Europe. Magnus The Black acts as a “fixer” for the Church in the darker corners of Scandinavia. His intentions are honorable, he sees the Christian mission and transformation of the pagan lands as inevitable, and so tries to make this change as painless as possible for his people. Magnus, however, is as devout a pagan as he is a pragmatist, and is viewed as a traitor and an enemy by both sides.

STARVE

toxic celebrity + food scarcity + class warfare.

Once the world's most famous chef, Gavin Cruikshank's been in a self-imposed exile for years. In his absence his little foodie television program has evolved into STARVE, a morally bankrupt competition show that thrills the wealthiest of the wealthy with rare, dangerous, and often illegal cuisine. But Gavin’s one-man crusade to end this outrage has stalled out, and he finds himself seduced by the very things he fled from in the first place: The toxic mix of success, money, and adoration.

Addressing real world themes of toxic celebrity, food scarcity and class warfare, STARVE brings its smart and subversive commentary to the forefront, making it one of the most relevant comics in recent times.

CHANNEL ZERO

The critically-acclaimed 90's lo-fi dystopia that launched a career.

Brian Wood launched an all-out assault on the comics medium in 1997 with Channel Zero, a blistering look at a repressive future America that hits on themes of freedom of expression, hacking, cutting-edge media manipulation, and police surveillance. Channel Zero remains an influential, forward-thinking work that combines art, politics, activism, and graphic design in a unique way.

This Channel Zero collection contains the original series, the prequel graphic novel Jennie One (illustrated by Becky Cloonan), the best of the two Public Domain design books, and almost fifteen years of extras, rarities, short stories, and unused art.
